Checking In

I had made up my mind that I was going to try and write something here every week, just to check in with y’all. And then two weeks went by. Oh well, best laid plans of mice and men and all that jazz.

When we last left off on this adventure called life I was waxing poetic about the one year anniversary of leaving my job. Since then I’ve gained a new job – pet “sitting” for lack of a better term. Our next door neighbor’s dog is sweet as can be, but has massive separation anxiety and gets really destructive. So she needs someone who can go daily to let him out, drug him (hemp treats for calming), and give him a fresh peanut butter filled kong to keep him occupied. She’s had someone else doing it but that wasn’t working out, so now it’s me. It only takes a few minutes a day and the weather has been gorgeous this week so walking next door hasn’t been a big deal. We’ll see how I feel when it gets cold. Or rains, lol.

In other news I’ve decided to make a big change. I’ve been growing my hair since the pandemic started, first out of necessity since everything was shut down, then out of a combination of laziness and curiosity how long I’d let it get. Well it’s pretty darned long after three and a half years, and it’s as close to my natural brown (and grey) color as my hair ever tends to get. But I’ve finally decided I’m sick of it. I have an appointment a week from today to go get it done. I’m still waffling on what “done” will actually mean. Dave suggested keeping it long and dying it all red again as his first choice. At first I considered that but I think I’ve warmed to the idea of cutting it off (sorry Dave.) The question is just how much I’m going to cut off. I’m still on the fence about that. Guess I have a week to figure it out!

In bookland a few things have been going on. Amazon has started doing some marketing for me for the book. So far it hasn’t yielded any sales but I guess these things take time. I did make my first “in the wild” sale though. A friend read it and posted on her FB page about liking it, so a friend of hers picked up a copy. That was pretty darned cool. Then the latest is that my mom had the occasion to talk to a book agent a few weeks ago (one of her bookkeeping client’s agent) and she said she’d like to see a copy of the book. So I sent that off yesterday. I don’t know that anything will ever come of that but it’s not something I ever thought I’d be doing, so there’s that. We’ll see.

Let’s see, what else? Well, I was today days old when I discovered not all flavored coffee creamer is non-dairy. Doh! I’ve been wondering why I get a stomachache every time I make myself a PSL at home, and I’d been blaming the coffee. Turns out I’m just an idiot and need to read labels.

I’ve been trying to get more creative with my meals lately so I’ve really been hitting the cookbooks. I’ve been sharing those photos to FB so I won’t do it again here right now, but who knows? With this whole “write something here every week” I may run out of shit to say and end up with an entire post about food. Lucky you guys, lol.

The Steelers won on Sunday which is worth mentioning since my whole family never saw that coming. With the way we’ve been playing we were braced for a blow out against Dave’s Ravens. Well don’t we just feel silly now?

Well that’s about it for this week’s wrap up. How’s life for you all? Anything interesting going on? Feel free to drop a line in the comments to share! And don’t forget to visit my website and to share it and the book with everyone you know! 😁

Talk to y’all soon!
