Fly to the Angels

(Title is still a song reference. Hooray for me.)

So in a few weeks I climb on a plane on the way to Colorado Springs via Chicago. Flight changes freak me out. There’s just so much airline shenanigans these days, gods only know if my stuff and I will arrive at the same place, at the right time.

So what do I decide to stuff in my carry-on versus what do I pack? Dave recently traveled to Brazil and his suitcase was misplaced for days. So ….. same clothes, same underclothes, no toiletries…. I do not want to be in that position. It’s definitely going to be an interesting packing job. I’m carrying a backpack on the plane. What do you think I should take, besides my meds (obviously)?

Plus there’s the whole being a plus-sized person on a plane. It’s really stressful. Most of you have never experienced it and therefore don’t comprehend, but it’s a real thing. I’m just hoping that the flights out aren’t full so it ends up being a non-issue. But I don’t have much hope for the flight from Baltimore to Chicago, since Chicago is such a hub for other places. The Chicago to Colorado Springs might be okay because honestly who is flying into Colorado Springs in November????? (The fact that there is a conference in Colorado Springs in November baffles me based on what I know about the potential weather there at the time.) But nevertheless, it leaves me excited for why I’m going to the destination (fun conference,) but I’m really stressed about getting there.

In other “why do you care but here is my life” news, Eli has been playing soccer this season for the first time. He’s not very good in general but he loves it. And that’s honestly all I care about. He enjoys it and so I’m not expecting him to become the next David Beckham, I’m expecting him to have fun. He got to play goalie last week and really did a pretty good job. Afterwards he felt bad about the one he missed but was more energized and engaged than I’ve ever seen him. I hope he gets the chance to play that position again, even if it was super stressful for Dave and I, LOL.

The most exciting recent news? Dave just got a new tattoo today. He’s been ruminating on what he wanted to do for the better part of a year, since he got gift certificates for Christmas, but up until recently was coming up with nothing. Then he found inspiration, and then some art on the internet which spurred him even further, to come up with something that was so quintessentially him. He loves otters. I mean, otters are one of the cutest things ever, right? They lay on their back and do cute human things with their hands (thanks Dennis Leary.) They love rocks. They have the most adorable of faces with their little whiskers and all. And he is super proud of his relatively newfound out queerness. (Is queerness a word?) Anyway, he wanted something that represented him and things that were important to him and so this is what he got.

You can’t see my purple tail, but I am all the flavors of the rainbow!

Don’t you just love it? I’m so proud of him for making such a big jump and displaying who he is loud and proud for everyone to see, other than during the depths of winter LOL. ❤️🏳️‍🌈❤️

Other than that, there is not much to currently say. We went and bought pumpkins, hooray for the fall season which is my favorite. Hooray we still have D&D 5e gaming every weekend which is fun. Hooray we’ve done a little bit of clothes shopping recently (I love a good cardigan,) just for the hell of it, which has been entertaining. Hooray that I’m on week 3 away from work and it only took two weeks before I got the first question call/text, and 3 weeks before I got the second and third one, LOL.

So that’s life in the Betty Fox world at the moment. I promise to keep you up to date (boring as that might be, LOL)!

  1. As a plus-size person I too hate flights. I wish for Star Trek teleports every time I fly. I’d pack a comfy, professional change of clothes, undies, and bare essential toiletries. Years ago when I wore contacts I made the mistake of packing all that stuff in the suitcase and when my flight was canceled for the night, had to wear my contacts 24 hours. Love the otter tattoo!
