Needless to say, many of my days can go by without much fanfare. Get up, make breakfast for the boys, chill, make dinner, rinse and repeat. It can get a little monotonous. So some things are a foot.
First, I started doing lunch every week with an old friend of mine. Sadly we have to take a few weeks hiatus because he’s working a job in DC right now, but I’m sure we’ll reconvene when he’s back to working from home. It’s been nice to get out of the house during the day and have someone to talk to.
I lamented that I’ve never been invite back to events at my old job. People who have left in the past have been, so not sure why I’m different, but apparently I am. It made me sad because I miss seeing people. Then I realized – I don’t need to wait for an invitation to see people. So I’ve started reaching out to set up dinners with old colleagues. We’re going out with one of my docs tonight, we go out with my old staff in a few weeks, and we have a calendar hold to go out with another one of my docs in May.
After many discussions we also figured that a change of scenery for a little bit would do me some good. So I’m going to Pittsburgh for a week to hang out with my oldest friend. She actually works from home during the day so it’s not like we have some grandiose plans, but maybe just playing cribbage on my phone on someone else’s couch for a week will be nice.
The spare bedroom upstairs used to belong to me. I had space in there for my computer and all my hobby stuff. But covid meant both Dave and I needed a place to work from home, so I gave up the hobby side of my office to Dave. It means I don’t really have room in there to do anything so I’d have to drag everything to the dining room table, which I don’t want to do. So I just haven’t been doing anything. Dave was like – this must change. So we’re looking into a new spot for his work desk so I’ll finally have my own space in the house again.
Spring soccer season starts for Eli this week, and it will definitely keep us busy. Two one-and-a-half hour practices a week and games every weekend. Definitely more involved than winter soccer for sure. I’m not overly thrilled about the two practices a week part, but at least it will keep him busy.
The craziest thing is that I applied for an adjunct position at the local community college. They’re looking for a Sociology professor, so I figure why not apply? I’ve never taught a class before so it’s unlikely I’ll get a position, but it never hurts to try, right? I’m only looking to teach one class (Intro to Sociology), so not looking for a new job per se, but again, something to mix things up and try something new while I’m at it.
We also have several other get togethers with friends and family planned in the next few months. So all in all, the lead up to summer is going to be a busy one. Not that I’m complaining. I could use a little busy, busy in my life again.
Good read… Awesome plans! I need to get to Pittsburgh. Would like to see the boys. ♥️
